The Antelope

Here at Lion Puppy, our Spotlights aren’t just about discovering amazing dog-friendly places; they’re about the incredible people and their furry companions who bring these spots to life. Our latest adventure took us to The Antelope Pub in London, where we stumbled upon unexpected wisdom, heartwarming stories, and even a very unique way of feeding a Labrador!

Watch our full video below to meet Cinnamon and hear heartwarming (and hilarious!) insights from dog owners.

A Fork in the Road (and a Mouth): Meeting Suj & Freddie

Our visit to The Antelope kicked off with an encounter that perfectly encapsulates the charm of impromptu meetings. We met Suj, who was sharing a pint with his chocolate Labrador, Freddie. What made this meeting truly memorable? Suj was hand-feeding Freddie from a fork! This wonderfully eccentric method, born from Freddie’s Labrador gene mutation (common in one in four Labs!) which fuels an insatiable appetite, was not just quirky but so wholesome. It’s a testament to the special bond between pet and parent, where dogs are truly family members, demanding the most tender care.

Life, Love, and Long-Distance: Wisdom from Ed & Laura

As the conversations flowed, we were incredibly fortunate to stumble upon Ed and Laura, who candidly shared insights into their long-distance relationship journey. Their journey, some spent in Korea and Amsterdam, highlighted the challenges and ultimate rewards of commitment. Ed’s patience in waiting a year for Laura’s return resonated deeply, offering advice on focusing on personal growth before commitment, while still nurturing a loving bond. Their open honesty provided the “relationship advice we didn’t know we needed” and reminded us that true connection can withstand any distance.

From Crazy Rescues to Managing Stress: The Bartender’s Heart of Gold

The generosity of spirit continued with a chat with the Supervising bartender, who shared not just love advice, but also a truly moving story about rescuing one of his three dogs from a difficult past. His compassion for animals extends to his home, where he cares for multiple dogs and cats, even considering a snake! He also shared his secret to handling stress: reaching home to his pets, whose unconditional playfulness and affection can melt away the toughest 12-hour shift. It’s a powerful reminder of the therapeutic joy pets bring into our lives.

Mia’s Take on Lasting Friendships

Later in the evening, we also met Mia, who offered some wonderful insights into the power of long-term friendships. She eloquently spoke about the unique comfort of friends who have known you since childhood, who “know the real you” and provide unwavering support through all of life’s reinventions.

We are truly grateful to Suj, Ed, Laura, Ali the kind bartender, Mia, and of course, Freddie the Choco Lab, for sharing their lives with us. Every interaction, every story, helps to build the vibrant Lion Puppy community.
